Abstract: The instability of the political system in Iraq post-2005 arises from several factors. First, the influence of ethno-sectarian, religious and tribal affiliations on Iraqi politics. Second, violations of the constitution by branches of government in general and the executive power in particular. The researcher has utilized the most relevant literature to collect the data for this study in order to investigate the causes and effects of the crises of the political system since 2005. This study has applied qualitative methodology and adopted instability approaches to analyzing data. Analysis of the existing data with the researcher’s own results indicated that there is a strong relation between established literature and the findings of this study. The researcher establishes the importance of this topic in evaluating the political system in Iraq since 2005 and to investigate the causes and effects of the crises of the political system in Iraq during this period. The findings of this study will confirm whether the lack of political culture and the dominance of tribal society leads to political instability in Iraq and how the ongoing interference from foreign states is the main challenge towards state-building in Iraq.
